MISSION AND OUTREACH MINISTRIES

In Matthew 25:34-36, Jesus is talking about serving the poor, the naked, the prisoners, the lonely, and He says "As you've done it unto the least of these, my brethren, you've done it unto me." The way that we treat those that are less fortunate than we are is a reflection of our treatment of Him. We believe that every person has invaluable worth in the eyes of God. We want this belief to be lived out loud, especially through our mission and outreach ministries.

Samaritan Inn

The third Saturday of each month a team from NRVCC travels to the Samaritan Inn to prepare and serve lunch to the transient population in Roanoke. Team members treat every person with grace and dignity, letting them know that they matter to us and to God.

NRV Juvenile Detention Home

The third Tuesday of each month a team from NRVCC goes to the New River Valley Juvenile Detention Home. This team brings a home-cooked meal for teens who are confined to the Detention Home. After the meal, time is spent playing games/sports or simply talking and building friendships. It's a great way to develop mentoring relationships and minister to youth, letting them know that every life has great potential and purpose!

World Vision International Missions

The World Vision International ministry gives opportunities to literally reach the world by sharing the love of Christ with college students from other countries. There are over 2000 international students on Virginia Tech campus alone. Adopt a student, be a prayer partner, provide resources or relationship, and make a difference in the life of students from around the world.

Operation Christmas Child

Each winter, NRVCC partners with Samaritan's Purse to pack Christmas shoeboxes. These boxes are filled with gifts and shipped to children from Third World countries. It's another great way to reach out especially during the holiday season.

Food Preparation

Each month, volunteers prepare food items for teams to serve a home-cooked meal at both the Samaritan Inn soup kitchen and the NRV Juvenile Detention Home. It's another hands-on way to be involved in reaching those less fortunate.

"For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me... Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me."
- Matthew 25:34-36, 40

"...Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant... Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many."
